Kentuckians sure do love their horses. I saw many throughout Lexington. The American flag horse was probably one of my favorites. Kentuckians also seem to really value art, though. I saw so many beautiful murals, paintings, and sculptures during my time there.
I stayed in the 21c Lexington hotel that doubled as a mini art museum. So, on the main and second floors, I was able to see artwork from artists such as Kehinde Wiley. I am a big fan of him and his work. I also fell in love with the installation at the entrance of the hotel, the Spectraline (2017) by SOFTlab. It's eyecatching and very colorful! I find myself drawn to colorful, vibrant works of art. If you happen to be in Lexington, I recommend going to see it in person.
When I walked or drove the streets around the hotel, I saw a lot of street art. I found some amazing murals, a rainbow crosswalk, and the cutest coffee shops that seemed to be coated in the most wonderful colors. It made walking around in the summer heat worth the sweat. My favorite coffee shop was Third Street Stuff. I could spend the whole day there. It had such a great vibe.
Before returning home from Kentucky, I went to the University of Kentucky Museum of Art. It was a small but mighty museum I really enjoyed Christina A. West's installation exploring the female gaze on male bodies. I even saw a Marcel Duchamp, which was really amazing because I had just been thinking about him and Dadaism. I really love how the museum explained the process of curating, what dates and numbers mean on gallery plaques, and so on. I truly learned a lot.
Kentucky is a fabulous place and I do plan on going back. I went for my friends, then stayed for the art and pleasantness. Thank you, Kentucky!

I've officially found a reason to visit Kentucky, apart from the Southern drawl, that is.
